Palolem Beach

Palolem is a beach of white sand facing a blue bay between two headlands. If you are interested, try to persuade one of the fishermen as this is also a fishing beach in Palolem Goa to ferry you across. They do offer to take you out to spot dolphins. Tourists have discovered Palolem and so there are a few shacks selling seafood snacks, souvenirs and clothes of the shapeless, bright, informal kind. Panaji, the capital, is more than 70 km away from Palolem Goa.

But it still is a place for quite contemplation, long walks paddling in the shallows and for soaking in the sun with a good book. But, the otherwise tranquil beach can get somewhat crowded on weekends when it attracts local picnickers.

The southern end is more relaxed than the north. The small Canacona Island on the north can be reached by a swim or via a boat ride with a fisherman, or by simply walking across at low tide. An added attraction at this end is a freshwater stream. Shacks line the northern end of the shore and serve reasonably good food and drinks. The shacks at the southern end offer better ambiance.

Palolem beach, situated in the Canacona district, is also known as "Paradise Beach". Until a few years back, it was among the virgin beaches of Goa.There are a lot of little resorts along the beach with bamboo huts on stilts. This beach is 37 kms away from Margao. Just west of Chaudi, it is one of the most enchanting and gorgeous beaches in Goa. It is relatively deserted, with the backdrop of Western Ghats, situated in Southern Taluka of Canacona. The silvery sand of the beach and a back drop of clean blue sky make this beach a favorite spot for the tourists.
