Sao Miguel, Arcanjo Church
Sao Miguel, Arcanjo Church Elevated: 8.5.1568    Feast: 2nd Sunday of October History: The Church of Orlim was founded by the Jesuits and blessed on 8.5.1568. It was destroyed by fire in1582 and was rebuilt in 1590. The Parochial house was rebuilt around 1890. Architectural notes: • Mannerist Neo-Roman style
• Large size, 4 bays x 3 storeys
• Templet with engaged Salomonic columns
• Alettes have twin reliefs of lions
• Cross base has twin reclining figures
• Shell canopies for second storey windows
• Finials of urn and spear-and-ball types
• Single bell tower to left, capped by dome and prominent lantern with urn finials
• Porch with corrugated sheet roof |
